What’s the Big Deal About Gratitude?

Great things start to happen the second you change the way you think. When we wake up each morning, we get to choose what we think about and where we choose to place our focus. What we give our mental energy to will expand. That means if you allow your mind to be at its own devices, it will go into survival mode organically and seek out all that is wrong, broken, or risk or threat to you. However, shifting this does take work and means making a conscious effort every day as to where we will place our focus. This is where gratitude comes in.

The big deal is that gratitude works! I teach this fundamental strategy to all of my clients because it really is a superfood or body armor that can help us feel good and stay positive and empowered, daily. When we practice gratitude, the brain lights up the part of the brain’s reward pathways and can boost the neurotransmitter serotonin and activate the brain to produce dopamine which is the brain’s pleasure chemical. And while I teach my clients to practice a formal gratitude practice every morning using the 5 Minute Journal App to help them reflect on 3 things that they are grateful for, there is another way that we can go about gratitude and reap its powerful benefits.

A Rampage of Appreciation Game

In the book “Ask and it is Given”, authors Esther and Jerry Hicks teach a powerful practice called A Rampage of Appreciation. Essentially it means to go on a rampage of expressing gratitude for anything and everything you are thankful for. It begins with a negative thought or feeling and shifts the state into a positive one. Gratitude rampages have the power to completely shift you out of a funk. Even if you’re not in a funk, listing out all the things you’re grateful for a few minutes will automatically take your vibe higher. And when we vibe higher, we attract miracles.

How To Play the Rampage of Appreciation Game

• Look around your immediate environment and notice something that pleases you.

• Hold your attention on the item as you notice how wonderful, beautiful, or useful it is.

• As you focus on it longer, your positive feelings about it will increase.

• Now notice your improved feeling and be appreciative of how you feel.

• Once your feelings are noticeably stronger than when you began, look around your environment and choose another pleasing object to focus on. Only pick objects that easily evoke your appreciation.

• The longer you focus on things that feel good to you, the easier it is for you to maintain those vibrational frequencies that feel good. The more you maintain these good feeling frequencies, the more the law of attraction will deliver to you other thoughts, people, experiences, and things that match your practiced vibration.

• Since it is your primary attention as you move through your day to find things to appreciate, you are practicing a vibration of less resistance and you are making your connection to your source energy stronger.

• Because the vibration of appreciation is the most powerful connection between the physical you and the non-physical you this process will put you in a position to receive clearer guidance from your higher self.

• The more you practice appreciation the less resistance you will have in your vibrational frequency.

• The less resistance you have, the better your life will be.

• By practicing this rampage of appreciation, you will become accustomed to the feeling of higher vibrations and will be able to catch yourself when you are anything less.

• And, the more you find something to appreciate, the better it feels. The better it feels, the more you want to do it, and the more you do it, the better it feels.

It Works!

I did this with a beautiful little blue pottery mug that I made with my own hands. I use this mug every day. When I started my rampage of appreciation, I focused on the color, shape, texture, and how the glaze danced together. I focused on how I appreciate having my coffee in it each morning and how proud I was of my skill to make pottery. I thought about how I felt sitting down with that mug every morning and sipping my hot hazelnut coffee. Before I knew it, I was feeling amazing and so engorged in gratitude for that little blue mug! I was feeling amazing by the end of the game. It was a powerful little exercise!

Double Dog Dare You

Even if you don’t believe in the law of attraction, isn’t this small rampage of appreciation game with its ability to help us feel good worth giving it a try? I invite you to see how gratitude can make a profound difference in your perspective and in how you feel every day.
